What is up with Natalie Joy?

I haven't posted for a while because I have been so crazy, busy!!! My twin sister and one of my oldest friends (you can find her at Life It is A-changing) are both getting married in consecutive weekends. AHHHHHH!! My children are the ring bearer and flower girl for both. Hubby and I are singing for both. I am matron of honor for my sister and wedding day coordinator for Ang's (that means if anyone has a question, they ask me not her). So the first weekend of March I had a shower for my sister 2 hours away where we grew up. The second weekend, I made my sister's veil. It turned out really well. I was really happy with it and she was, too. Then I had a shower in my home for Ang. I have loved it, but it has been very busy.
I have also been staying on top of my job so in the middle of these two weddings I won't be totally behind on my paperwork.
Bill's birthday is also this weekend. We are going to get to spend some time together.
I still have a lot to do to be ready for the next couple of weeks. I need to make the wraps for the other bridesmaid and myself. Gather all the necessary things such as shoes, jewelry and hair accessories for Mellie and myself and figure out what still needs to be bought. Go buy the stuff that still needs to be bought. Plan what Bill will wear for both these shindigs.
Oh, and I have to share with my crafty thrifty friends the dress I found to wear to Ang's wedding. It is a vintage late 50's-ish prom dress. It is cream with purple polkad dots. Totally cute, but I do have to to a little bit of tailoring to get it to fit right - and some gentle cleaning. When I get it all done, I will post a pic and tell you where and how I found it.
Well, thanks for letting me use my blog as my personal to do list again. It helps me to sleep better if I don't have all this stuff floating around my brain. You don't actually have to read this.

While I have been typing this, Bill has been watching Strongbad emails. For those of you unfamiliar with Strongbad he is a character on homestar runner. We have been laughing so hard. It is so funny.

Not Quite "Supermom" Today

Thursday might have been a "supermom" kind of day, but we are not having a "supermom" kind of moment. As I type my husband is taking care of one three year old little girl having a massive melt down, screaming "I want mommy." But, that is only because daddy said she needed to go back to bed herself.
The last three days she has had a major melt down every single day. It is definitly related to being tired, but we are a little at our wits end. Saturday it was at the end of my sister's bridal shower. She screamed over and over at me "bad mommy, bad mommy". I just laughed because I knew she was so tired she almost couldn't control herself.
Sunday it was after lunch, changing out of her dress into pants. She did NOT want to wear pants. She got so mad she smacked me in the face. I managed to keep my cool and she took a looong nap.
Tonight, I just don't know. She has never been like this with the full on tantrums. They involve kicking, screaming, hitting. We are a little at a loss. I know it is just a phase and at 14 she won't be doing this. Right?! I know we will all get through this, but so much for my "supermom" Thursday.

Not just your Average Grocery Day

Today was not "grocery day". Thursday was actually "grocery day". But, my life has been so crazy the last couple of weeks and especially days that I just have not had the time to post even though I have been wanting to. So let me tell you about grocery day. It is the wonderful day that happens about twice a month when I fill the house with groceries. I usually do a big Aldi run. I recently read a really fun post with pics singing the praises of Aldi, but, of course I can't find it right now. For those of you who may not know about Aldi, it is an extremely discounted discount grocery store. You have to pay to get a cart out, pay for their bags or bring your own, bag your own groceries and search down aisles of food stacked on palettes to find what you want. BUT, you get pretty good groceries for an inexpensive price. We really like artichoke dip but artichokes are kinda pricey. $2.69 for a 7.5 oz jar at the regular store, $1.99 for a 12 oz jar at Aldi. And I like the Aldi ones better. We also really, really like their salmon. It is always tender and flaky and not too "fishy". Robby also really likes their frozen ravioli and spaghetti sauce.
So, I made the big Aldi run and came home to restock the cupboards and fridge to find that the fridge is FULL. Not full of anything we could actually eat. Rather full of moldy leftovers, empty mustard and salad dressing bottles and very stinky cheese (the kind that is not supposed to be stinky). Now "grocery day" has become "clean out the fridge day". So I clean out the fridge as quickly as I can so the ice cream doesn't melt any more than it already has. (I have to go about 30 minutes to my nearest Aldi). (Oh and they have really good ice cream)
Now that this is done I turn around to a sink full of rubbermaid and gladware that needs to be emptied. And, so it goes. "Grocery day" turned "clean out the fridge day" has become "wash every piece of plastic I own day". By this time, Bill is almost home, I have a house full of food and nothing ready for dinner. I do have croissants (I LUH HUV croissants) and I have canned chicken. I have some pumpkin and chicken broth. I know, I'll whip up my own specialty fruity chicken salad and one of our new favorite soups Pumpkin Curry Soup. (Beefy pay attention this is the soup I have been wanting you to try.) Hubby comes home, dinner is on the table, everyone likes it and Supermom strikes again. So my "Grocery Day" turned "Clean out the fridge day" turned "Wash all the plastic in my house day" becomes a "I am Mom, hear me shop- clean-cook day!"

I have included the recipe for Pumpkin Curry Soup for those of you who would like to try it. It is very yummy, good for a starter at holidays, too.

Ingredients:
2 Tblsp butter 1 cup chopped onion 2 cloves minced garlic
1-1/2 tsp. curry powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. white pepper
3 cups chicken broth 1 15 oz can pumpkin 1 12 oz can evaporated milk

Directions:
Melt butter in saucepan over med-high heat. Add onion and garlic, stir for 2-3 minutes. Stir in curry, salt and pepper and cook 1 minute. Add broth and pumpkin, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cook stirring often for 15 - 20 minutes. Stir in milk. Heat till warm. You can serve it at this point or for a smoother soup, blend in a blender then serve.
